Changing Your Transports to HTTP
Last Updated:
Your player may use transports other than HTTP to increase performance, but this may decrease the stability or compatibility of the stream. To ensure that your player works properly with NPR's streams, we recommend that you set your player to use HTTP as your streaming transport.
RealAudio Player
In the "Tools" menu, select "Preferences". Under "Connections", click on "Network Transports", then check the box labeled "Manually configure connection settings." Click on both buttons below:
RTSP settings: uncheck the top three, check "attempt to use http for all content"
PNA settings: uncheck the top three, check "attempt to use http for all content"
Restart your real player.
If you cannot see a "Tools" menu, try launching the player from your Start menu -- you will see the "Tools" menu at that time.

WindowsMedia Player
In the "Tools" menu, click on "Options". Select the "Network" tab.
Uncheck "multicast", "UDP" and "TCP". Check "HTTP" and click "OK".
Close your Windows Media player.
If you cannot see a "Tools" menu, try right-clicking on the play button of the player, and selecting "Options". Then follow the instructions above. If this doesn't work, try launching the player from your Start menu -- you will see the "Tools" menu at that time.
