The United States Department of Transportation has created a Disability Hotline which provides real-time assistance with disability-related air travel problems, questions about facilities accommodations, and information on how to obtain printed consumer information on their rights. Travelers may also call the air carrier to provide advance notice for wheelchair assistance with boarding and deplaning and between connecting flights. For more information, call (800) 778-4838 or (800) 455-9880. In assisting individuals with disabilities who may have air travel complaints that require immediate intervention, the role of the DOT employees would be one of facilitating compliance with DOT's rules and suggesting possible customer-service solutions to the airline involved.
